We woke to the sound of the birds. Our companion had gone, much earlier. We sort of, but not really, heard him go. He was quiet.
Karst scenery |
The scenery was more of the same big limestone and thick forest.
More |
The shade offered a nice cooler atmosphere. Although it's hard to be truly cool carrying a big backpack.
We were out of the mountains. Truly out of the mountains but still we had up and down to do. Only the last day is relatively flat.
Which way |
As I've said the signs are great. I mean pick a colour and go for it. Ours was the red and white, but it seemed that the orange worked here too. Red and white being the European colours for long walks. We now follow these signs in our sleep.
Views are getting wider as we get out of the mountains |
Not yet.
Camping in the shade |
When we got to Can Nou, there is not much there, we saw tables and chairs in a garden or a house being refurbished. There was a sign saying 'cafe' so we stuck out head through the gate. The owners called down from the windows - a warm welcome. they came down to serve us. but they had no food. But seeing the expressions on our faces they made us toast - all they had.
Again our presence brought in the crowd. This young couple living in the middle of no-where with a mountain of rebuilding to do - were two of the happiest people we met. Off the grid. Happy.
We talked for a long while . I suggested that they should set up a retreat for 'burned out executives' (Reginald Perrin style - look it up). They responded that I should do it - they would like the company. Touche.
We set off to Camping Bassegoda. It had a pool and washing machines. Just what we needed. We camped with some of our companions and swam and did the laundry.
And of course ate a lot.
And there was the Spanish guy, Alice and Luca and us.
