Spain - Day 6: Top of the world to Ochagavia

Wild life
We got up, had breakfast a delicious meal of succulent Spanish sausage and fantastic Spanish bread. The world was still empty. And beautiful. We set off. we were soon greeted by the local wildlife (we have got used to the vultures.) Some very very very pretty horses. Lots of them. They were a bit stand offish - but maybe it's because we were a bit smelly.

We were in limestone country. So no water. But more limestone bloody pavement. Seems its everywhere in the world. But this was old pavement - more refined that the young stuff we saw in Yorkshire. In need of refurbishment.

Ancient limestone pavement
The original plan for today was a quick: 21km up and down jaunt. But as we had done the up last night - it was just a pleasant stroll down. We have found that the world is general mostly up. Regardless of what it says on maps. Just different quality ups. if the guide book is to be believed the ups become disastrous as we go on.

We came across an old Shrine in the middle of the forest 'Our Lady of Muskilda' dating from the 12th century. Very quiet and peaceful. We paid our respects, filled our water bottles but I needed to go so we went. And I went in the forest in front of Our Lady. But I am sure she wouldn't have minded. Even 'Our Ladies' have to go.

So we went - leaving the evidence of our visit to bring new life to the forest. Giving a bit back. I know that you are only supposed to take photographs and leave footprints. But sometimes you need to leave something a bit more tangible. I blame my diet. Too much protein.

Taking of food we have discovered the daily menu. A four or five course meal with wine and water included. These meals pepper our days and are a substitute, although an unworthy one for our staple of delicious succulent Spanish sausage and fantastic Spanish bread.

Finally, actually quite earlyly, we reach Ochagavia and have a good look round. Well at least some of us have a good look round. We also do some shopping and drinking - our need to experience the local cultures as we cross Spain.

Looking after the stuff

We camped in Ochagavia and ate and drank well before retiring for the night. We are still queueing up in restaurants for the first servings of food at 8pm. They don't seem to understand - we are tired and hungry and need our beauty sleep.

We thought that we had found a bit of history.

Puente Romanica - The Roman Bridge

But it turns out that its not Roman just a bit old and really - not that impressive. It obviously has a good PR agent.
