Spain - Day 11: Perfect Camp Site to Respomusa

Our everything
The day after today has one of the most dangerous 'cols' along the route. So today is a positioning walk to get us to the foot of the climb to beat any potential thunder storms, that might happen tomorrow.

So we packed early ate our good sausage and fresh bread. And set off. Today was just up - but in reality not very far. We had done a fair chunk yesterday.

The views on the way up were fantastic the mountains were closing in. Tomorrow it got really real.

The up we were upping
There was lots of people and of course we hadn't book a place at the refuge. It was possible to camp but not a campsite - wild camping close to the refuge. That was our goal. Eventually the dam, that foretold of the nearness of the refugio came into view. This made the lake by which the refuge and by extension the camping was situated.

The Dam

The lake it made is surrounded by peaks - not natural but looks great. A bit of geological surgery if you like.

Ibon de Respomuso

Maybe there was a proper Ibon here before - cos this is certainly not glacial in its current form.

Mountainous

An alien
The Refuge was full, but we'd planned to camp, anyway. The keeper directed us to the camping ground and we found two nice spots. One of which we had to wait for the previous occupants to leave. It had been a hot climb - we were sweaty - very sweaty. I thought that we were carrying back packs. But it seems that the wife was carrying an Alien (probably lighter than a back pack).
Wind proof
We put the tents up - rooms with a view. Nicely piled rocks separating the camping spots and acting to some extent as a wind break. It was windy. We had an afternoon to spare so we went for a walk. I mean, what else. A look around and of course some photo ops. A walk may not seem fitting - but without a rucksack - it was a little bit of heaven.

People ask us why we walk. Just look at the views. These are places only a bit of effort will get you to. It's not cheap in terms of money (moving is expensive) or effort, but it is absolutely worth it. Exercise and quality time with the family.

Soaking it in

Home sweet, for one night only, home

A little lost Ibon

The old refuge - locked (we checked)

Before we went to bed, after an amazing dinner in the refuge. Enough to fill us all - with seconds and thirds for those that need even more filling. And the bottomless pit that is our son - needs a lot of extras to fill him. A rough calculation puts him on about 5000kC a day at the moment.

On the way back to the tents this was the view.

Wow - worth it?
